My heart mission is creating access for all people to learn more about this great USA-born music called Jazz and to awaken and empower improvisation. The remarkable elements of improvisation and the integration of various cultures of music and rhythms all go into this musical form.
I work as a clinician and an artist-in-residence on the elementary, middle and high school levels. Behind the scenes, I work to create bridges and partnerships to strengthen jazz education in our community.
I feel its important to encourage the creativity of our young people and develop an audience for one of America's most important music form. I find it exciting to help musicians and budding musicians as they find their own sound, style and voice in the music.
These are workshops I am involved with that help to strengthen community and create safe places for learning and growing as an improviser.
Madison Jazz Jam is a twice monthly jam session for musicians to work on improvisational skills while performing with veteran jazz players. Madison Jazz Jam welcomes musicians of all ages and levels.
In 2022, I am helping to launch a pilot program to create access for very young students to begin intensive music study.
